Unlocking Paintings: The Art of Work

Exhibition: 5 September 2018 - 13 January 2019

Scenes of people at work became incredibly popular in the 17th century. These paintings offer a snapshot of working life, from fishing and farming to brickmaking and ironmongering. But life in the Low Countries was not all work and no play, and after a long day, people might go to a local tavern to relax. This display gives us an insight into the past and the lives of ordinary people.
