The National Gallery of Ireland holds the most comprehensive and eminent collection of Dutch and Flemish art in Ireland. It includes paintings by Rembrandt van Rijn, Peter Paul Rubens, and Johannes Vermeer. The latter was featured in the Summer 2024 exhibition Vermeer Visits, where the Gallery displayed The Frick Collection’s Mistress and Maid by Johannes Vermeer with the Gallery’s own Woman Writing a Letter, with her Maid. This was an unprecedented opportunity to unite the works, as The Frick’s Vermeer – one of the highlights of its holdings – has rarely traveled outside of New York. This presentation will share insights from the Vermeer Visits exhibition, and discuss some of the most cherished paintings from the National Gallery of Ireland’s collection.
