Information
The collection of Old Master works at the Göteborg Museum of Art has an emphasis on art from Germany and Italy during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, as well as Dutch and Flemish Baroque art.
In the Baroque Hall and the adjacent stairway you will find works by Jacob Jordaens, David Teniers, and two monumental paintings by Peter Paul Rubens: The Adoration of the Magi, and Henry IV of France at the Siege of Amiens. Also represented is Rembrandt with one of his late works The Knight with the Falcon, a profound psychological portrait of a nobleman, most likely the legendary Saint Bavo during his spiritual transformation.
The museum also holds works by Anthony van Dyck, still lifes from artists such as Frans Snyders and Pieter van den Bosch, and landscapes by Jan van Goyen and Allart van Everdingen. In addition, the collection of drawings and engravings includes works by Abraham Bloemaert, Hendrick Goltzius, Ferdinand Bol, Ludolf Backhuysen, Jan Sadeler, and Pieter Bruegel the Elder, among others.
