Gorcums Museum

Information

The Gorcums Museum focuses on both historical and modern art. The collection’s approximately 6,800 objects help to tell the story of Gorinchem. They range from great names from the history of art to products of the city’s arts and crafts. Some 80% of the collection is the property of Old Gorinchem Historical Society, which has transferred responsibility for the management and presentation of the collection to the Gorcums Museum.

The permanent exhibition of the collection of the Gorcums Museum contains several highlights. They include a letter signed by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1813, a portrait of Abraham van Hoey painted by Hyacinthe Rigaud in 1736, silverware by Gerardus Bruyns and Hendrik de Blij (seventeenth and eighteenth centuries), and two versions of The Execution of the Martyrs of Gorcum produced around the time of the martyrs’ canonization in the nineteenth century. The modern art collection includes works by Ad Dekkers and Peter Struycken.
