Information
The Hammer Museum was founded by Dr Armand Hammer and opened to the public in 1990. The museum provided galleries for Dr Hammer’s collections, which consisted mainly of European Old Master paintings and drawings. Today the museum holds 30 works by Rembrandt, including one of the highlights of the museum: the painting Juno (c.1662-1665), depicting the Roman goddess of wealth and an outstanding example of Rembrandt’s late style. There is also a painting by Peter Paul Rubens, Young Woman with Curly Hair (ca. 1618-1620). In addition, the collection includes a number of Dutch and Flemish prints and drawings by artists such as Anthony van Dyck, Cornelis de Visscher, Hieronymous Cock, Jan van de Velde I, Hendrick Goltzius, Jan Lievens, Hans Vredeman de Vries, Abraham Bloemaert, Jacob van Ruisdael and a mythological scene by Jan Sadeler I.
