Veste Coburg houses a collection of prints and drawings of more than 220,000 works of art It was founded by Francis, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld (1750–1806), an enthusiastic collector of graphic art with a particular interest in German and Netherlandish schools. Artists such as Lucas van Leyden, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Hendrick Goltzius, Rembrandt, and many others are represented by almost their complete graphic work. In addition, there are drawings by Hendrick Goltzius, Jacob Adriaensz. Backer and the Rembrandt school.
