CODART, Dutch and Flemish art in museums worldwide

Morgan Library & Museum

Information

The Morgan Library & Museum’s collection of Netherlandish art includes extensive holdings of medieval manuscripts (like the celebrated Hours of Catherine of Cleves), prints and printed books, and more than 800 drawings. The museum also houses a number of decorative objects and paintings, including portrait roundels by Lucas Cranach and Henry VIII’s Triumph of Avarice tapestry, designed by Pieter Coecke van Aelst. Sixteenth- and Seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish drawings are a particular strength of the Morgan, with recent promised gifts by Clement C. Moore II and Betty and Jean-Marie Eveillard enhancing the museum’s holdings in these areas. Collection highlights include sheets by Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck, Hendrick Golztius, Maria Sibylla Merian, and at least 22 drawings by Rembrandt. The Morgan likewise holds more than 500 lifetime impressions of Rembrandt’s etchings.
