Information

The painting of the northern schools represents an important aspect of the historical core of the collections of the Musée Départemental d’Art Ancien et Contemporain (MUDAAC), thanks in particular to the collection of the princes of Salm, seized in 1793 during the French Revolution. This princely collection also comprises one of the museum’s masterpieces and an exceptional work in Rembrandt’s oeuvre: the Mater Dolorosa. Since then, the collections have grown, and now number among their most representative artists Jan van Goyen, Frederik de Moucheron, Paul Bril, Hendrick van Balen (I), and Jan Brueghel (I).
