Information
The museum preserves and exhibits the collection that José Lázaro Galdiano (Beire, Navarra 1862 – Madrid, 1947) bequeathed to the Spanish State. The collector focused on works of Flemish and Dutch art, acquiring almost 400 artworks in total – paintings, prints, drawings, textiles, and silverware. The painting collection is particularly outstanding with over 100 works by masters such as Hieronymus Bosch (one by the master’s hand and two by his workshop), Ludolf de Jongh, Jacob van Walscapelle, Nicolaes Maes, Jacob Marrell, Coenraet Roepel, Dirck van Denle, Michaelina Wautier, Bernard van Orley, Marcellus Coffermans, Gérard David, Adriaen Isenbrandt, Quentin Metsys, Lucas Gassel, Joost de Momper, David Teniers the Younger, Jan Van Dornicke, Jan Brueghel the Younger, Paul de Vos, Pieter Snayers, Thomas Willeboirts Bosschaert or Erasmus Quellinus the Younger, among many others. We also have a small collection of prints by Dürer, Rembrandt, Sadeler, Pontius, Vosterman and Wierix, as well as a drawing by Anthony van Dyck.
