Oude Kerk

Information

The Oude Kerk is the oldest building in Amsterdam. It was probably founded as a wooden chapel in a hamlet by the River Amstel in the thirteenth century. The collection of the Oude Kerk comprises circa 1000 objects, some of these are displayed in the fully decorated period rooms such as the Churchwardens Chamber, the Mirror Room, the Vestry and the Commissioners Chamber. Among its collection of paintings are works by Emmanuel de Witte, Johannes Bosboom and Cornelis Springer, which are part of Collectie Nederland (Dutch State’s art collection).
