Amito Haarhuis Appointed as Next Director of the Dutch Open Air Museum

The supervisory board of the Dutch Open Air Museum has appointed Amito Haarhuis as general director-manager as of March 1. In his new position, he succeeds Teus Eenkhoorn, who was director of the museum from 2018 to 2024. In Haarhuis, the Dutch Open Air Museum has found an experienced and passionate museum director who matches the ambitions of the museum.

Amito Haarhuis has been director-manager of the Rijksmuseum Boerhaave in Leiden since 2018. He oversaw the redesign and expansion of the museum and, together with his team, developed an innovative exhibition policy based on current events and pressing issues. Prior to that, he was deputy and assistant director of the NEMO Science Museum in Amsterdam. Haarhuis studied biology in Wageningen, where he specialized in zoology/biophysics and nature and environmental education.
