The Atlas Van Stolk in Rotterdam has appointed a new curator and a new exhibition manager. The new staff members complete the team of the Dutch picture collection.
The Atlas Van Stolk is the largest collection of images of Dutch history. It consists of almost 300,000 images on prints, drawings, photographs, posters, maps and in books. Every year the collection is expanded with historical and contemporary images, which are all digitized online.
In the past two years, the Atlas Van Stolk has bid farewell to director and chief curator Lina van der Wolde, and curator Emilie van der Maas. Van der Wolde’s position was filled in 2023 by CODART member Maretta Johnson. Isabel Heijne succeeded Van der Maas as curator of the collection. Recently, Kim de Groot joined the team as exhibitions and programs manager. Collection registrar Carien Dumoulin and heritage collections associate Yvonne van Klaveren complete the team.
In 2022, the Atlas Van Stolk moved into the Rotterdam Public Library. Thanks to this new collaboration, the library now houses two UNESCO-recognized collections. In the Rotterdam Public Library, the Atlas hopes to have found a future-proof partner and a place where exhibitions and education can be realized in a public and cultural environment.
For the coming years, the Atlas has the ambition to collect with an eye to diversity and to collect digitally made objects. The collection will also be displayed and made accessible in a variety of ways for a broad audience.
