Fundraising campaign to acquire Van Dyck self-portrait for the National Portrait Gallery in London

The Art Fund has launched a fundraising campaign to help the National Portrait Gallery to acquire Van Dyck’s magnificent final self-portrait. This enigmatic and intimate portrait has previously hung in private collections, so this is a rare opportunity for us to buy it for the nation, so that everyone can enjoy it.

The self-portrait had been in the private ownership of an English family for almost 300 years when it was auctioned in 2009. The National Portrait Gallery now seeks to save the portrait for Britain, where it has been painted in 1640 and to be able to share it with the public. See www.savevandyck.org for more information on the painting and to make a donation.
