A painting by Godefridus Schalcken has resurfaced after years. The owner contacted the Dordrechts Museum, which is currently hosting an exhibition of Schalcken’s oeuvre in cooperation with the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum.
A Young Girl Offering a Waffle, painted in 1667, was only known through photos. The curators of the exhibition have been searching for this painting, along with others, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
According to Sander Paarlberg, Curator of the Dordrechts Museum, the painting was last seen with an art dealer in the 1990s, although it remains unclear to whom it was sold. The current owner of the painting has agreed to lend it to the museum, where it can be seen in the exhibition Schalcken – Painted Seduction until 26 June 2016.
