M-Museum Leuven Reopens with Renewed Galleries

After closing for five months, M has reopened its doors to the public on last Sunday. The museum is taking its collection presentations, along with its entire museum theory and practice, in a new and contemporary direction.

Five new collection presentations have opened:The Power of Images, Collecting is an Art, Identifying Old Masters, Form is Everything, and Infinite Hospitality. In addition,  two solo exhibitions by contemporary artists have opened. And the museum is taking the combination of old and modern art one step further. Peter Carpreau, Head of Old Masters stated in a press release: “A fourteenth-century pieta. A seventeenth-century painting. A nineteenth-century sculpture. A twenty first-century conceptual work. Why should they each remain in their own little box? From now on, at M, they will happily sit side by side. Because together, they might tell a much more pointed or intelligible story than they do separately. M is removing the classical distinctions between old and contemporary art.”
