Starting on 20 October the Louvre, the Petit Palais and the Institut Néerlandais in Paris, all of which are showing Rembrandt exhibitions, will guide visitors from one exhibition to the next. The Bibliothèque Nationale de France, in its rue de Richelieu building, is also participating in the arrangement.
French museums are not normally noted for their willingness to cooperate with each other. Thanks however to the reputation of Rembrandt, the Institut Néerlandais was able to arrange this project. At the Louvre the support was enlisted of Carel van Tuyll van Serooskerken, the first Dutchman ever to be appointed curator to the most frequently visited museum in the world. He organized the exhibition Rembrandt dessinateur for his museum, on the master’s drawings. More than sixty sheets will be on display, which are normally spread throughout museums in France.
In the nearby Petit Palais 180 etchings by Rembrandt will be displayed. The Institut Néerlandais and the Louvre will be showing the Rembrandt collection of the Dutch art historian and collector Frits Lugt, which are preserved by Fondation Custodia in Paris.
