RKD Announces New Direction as Knowledge Center

The RKD – Netherlands Institute for Art History has announced a new direction, redefining itself as a knowledge center for the visual arts of the Low Countries.

For decades, the RKD has supported professionals and students conducting art historical research. In a news release, the RKD expressed its commitment to strengthening this role by building a robust and sustainable foundation for the future.

For this reason, the RKD will transform from a research institute into a knowledge center. As a knowledge center, the RKD will focus on managing, connecting, and providing access to its extensive physical and digital collections relating to the art of the Low Countries. In addition, the institute will continue to offer high-quality, digitally accessible data and services in support of art historical research.

As part of this transition, the RKD is currently unable to accept new applications for art historical research projects. However, staff will remain available to answer questions and assist with consultations of the collection.
