Rijksmuseum Publishes Book on Its Holdings in 18th-Century Dutch Art

On Wednesday, 16 August, the Rijksmuseum is presenting the third volume in a series on Dutch art in the Rijksmuseum: Nederlandse kunst 1700-1800.The book will offer the first survey of the holdings of the Rijksmuseum from this too little-known period. They include works by Cornelis Troost, Nicolaas Verkolje, Willem van Mieris, Jan Baptist Savery and Jacob van Strij. The book also devotes attention to the flourishing of furniture, silver and sculpture and to faience from the factories of Delft and Weesp. There are sections on the historical context of art production in the 18th century, the world of artists and collectors and costume.

The launching of the book, which is published by Waanders Publishers, will take place from 11:30 to 13:00, with talks by Ronald de Leeuw, director of the Rijksmuseum, Reinier Baarsen, chief curator of furniture and the writer Hella Haasse, who has written popular historical works on the 18th century in the Netherlands.
