Friends of CODART & King Baudouin Foundation Offer Curator Grant in Belgium

The Friends of CODART Foundation is happy to announce a new partnership with the King Baudouin Foundation (KBF) in Belgium, to finance one Curators Stipend in 2026. As a part of their newly established Encouraging Young Talent Fund, the KBF is offering three grants for museums in Belgium to appoint a junior curator for the duration of six months, to support a senior curator and gain experience in a curatorial role. Modeled on the Curators Stipend of the Dutch Cultuurfonds, the grant of €25.000 will stimulate the transfer of knowledge between generations, and allow more breathing room and time for research for the senior curator.

The Friends of CODART Foundation is delighted to contribute to the training of a young curator through this grant. The stipend funded by the Friends of CODART should focus on a collection of or project concerning Dutch and Flemish art before 1800. The applying senior curator must be a member of CODART, and the junior curator will be offered membership for the duration of their employment.

CODART encourages all members in Belgium to consider application. Deadline for applications is 15 May 2026. To read more about eligibility and how to apply, please visit this page.

First edition

In 2023, the Friends of CODART Foundation partnered with the Cultuurfonds in the Netherlands to enable one extra Curator’s Stipend, in the context of CODART’s 25th anniversary that year. The grant was awarded to the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, for a research project and exhibition about Gerard van Honthorst. You can read more about the project and the experience of the junior and senior curator in this interview with Liesbeth Helmus and Iris Blokker, grantees of the Curators Stipend.

Future editions?

The Friends of CODART Foundation is seeking to expand its grant program and aims to support curators with a similar grant outside of the Netherlands and Belgium as well.
