CODART, Dutch and Flemish art in museums worldwide

Friends of CODART Offers One Curators Stipend via the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds in 2023

To mark the 25th anniversary of CODART, in 2023 the Friends of CODART Foundation finances one Curators Stipend via the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.

As the international network of museum curators of Dutch and Flemish art before 1800, CODART aims to support the curator in making this widespread cultural heritage more visible and accessible to an international public. The main task of the curator is to carry out and maintain the intellectual care for objects within a museum’s collection. Due to the growing number of responsibilities of museum curators, this often receives less attention than it should. At the same time, young art historians and junior curators struggle to find opportunities to gain experience in museums. To aid in this situation, the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds launched the Conservatoren Stipendium (Curators Stipend) in 2013. With this stipend, a museum can hire a junior curator for the duration of six months, in which the senior curator can devote him or herself to research, or can receive support from the junior in another project. At the same time, a junior curator is enabled to gain experience working in a museum.

The Friends of CODART Foundation is thrilled to be able to support the work of museum curators via this stipend in CODART’s 25th anniversary year.

CODART encourages all curators in Dutch museums to consider application. Deadline for application is 1 July 2023. More details about eligibility, criteria and how to apply can be found on this page.
