On September 29, Dr. Maryan Ainsworth, Curator of European Paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, was awarded the Knight of the Order of Léopold for her recent catalogue raisonné and exhibition Man, Myth, and Sensual Pleasures, Jan Gossart’s Renaissance. In honoring her, Ambassador Herman Portocarero, the Consul General of Belgium in New York, praised Dr. Ainsworth for having made “very substantial contributions to the knowledge and appreciation of the cultural heritages and history of Belgium. In the process, she has promoted ever closer ties and cooperation between cultural institutions and professionals of the art world on both sides of the Atlantic. Our honoree has illustrated our diversity, our complexity and the creativity and the depth of our national character.”
