Dutch regional newspapers have reported the passing of Pieter Biesboer, a prominent art historian and former curator at the Frans Hals Museum, on 23 May, in Haarlem.
Biesboer previously served as a curator at the Prinsenhof in Delft before his time at the Frans Hals Museum. He was also an active in CODART from 1999 until his 2009 retirement, attending several of our congresses.

An expert on seventeenth-century art, with a particular focus on Frans Hals, Biesboer leaves behind a significant legacy of published work. His publications include numerous exhibition catalogues, research papers and contributions to the Getty Research Institute’s Thieme-Becker catalogue. Following his retirement, he commenced work on the Haarlem pages of the Getty Provenance Index.
