Simon Levie, former director of the Rijksmuseum and co-founder of the Rembrandt Research Project has passed away

Today the sad news reached us that Simon Levie (1925 – 2016) has passed away yesterday, 12 July. Levie was the director of the Rijksmuseum from 1975 until his retirement in 1989, after having served as director of the Amsterdams Historisch Museum since 1963. During this directorate he also co-founded the Rembrandt Research Project in 1968. He remained active after his retirement and curated exhibitions for the Centraal Museum in 1995 and the Amsterdams Historisch Museum in 2001.

The cremation ceremony will take place on Saturday 16 July, at 10:30 in Crematorium Westgaarde, Ookmeerweg 275 in Amsterdam. Following the ceremony, a memorial service will be held at 13:00 at the Hilton, Apollolaan 138 in Amsterdam.
