Yao-Fen You New Senior Curator and Head of Department at Cooper Hewitt

CODART member Yao-Fen You started her new position as Senior Curator and Head of the Product Design and Decorative Arts Department at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. Yao-Fen joins the Cooper Hewitt from the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) where she was Associate Curator of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts.

In her new position, Yao-Fen will organize national and international exhibitions, publications and education programs, as well as oversee the development of the department’s collection. International in scope, the department contains a comprehensive ceramics collection, most notably European porcelain and earthenware, furniture, metalwork, lighting, glass, jewelry, models, architectural elements and industrial design.

Yao-Fen has been an active CODART member since 2004 and a frequent speaker at CODART’s events. She served on the editorial board of the CODART eZine and has authored the article Sculpture and Decorative Arts from the Low Countries in the Collection of the Detroit Institute of Arts in eZine 1, Autumn 2012. In 2015, she accompanied the CODART Study Trip to the Midwest and helped introduce fellow CODART members to the collections of multiple museums in the area.
