Yesterday, the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA) has unveiled a new version of its online collections portal BALaT (Belgian Art Links and Tools).
The database features nearly one million photographs documenting approximately 500,000 items. Visitors can find detailed descriptions of heritage objects, professional photographic documentation, references to conservation and restoration records, bibliographic references, and links to additional online resources.

The new home page allows you to search across all categories at once or dive directly into dedicated collections.
Reflecting the immense diversity of Belgium’s cultural heritage, the collection spans fine art, historic buildings, religious objects, ethnographic collections, photo reports, landscapes, and scenes of everyday life. These objects are held not only in Belgian and international museums and heritage institutions, but also in private collections and by federal, regional, and local authorities.
