A catalogue of the collection of Netherlandish, Flemish and Dutch Prints (1500-1800) in the National Museum of Serbia has been published by CODART member and Senior Curator Dragana Kovačìč. Netherlandish, Flemish and Dutch Prints from the 16th to the 18th centuries from the National Museum of Serbia (Низоземаска, холандска и фламанска графика од XVI до XVIII века из Народног музеја Србије) is a bilingual edition and contains texts in in Serbian (Cyrillic) and English.
The work on this book was motivated by a need to expand knowledge about the collection of prints by old Netherlandish, Dutch and Flemish masters that have been kept in the National Museum of Serbia. Therefore, the entire collection needed to be indexed and re-evaluated. All prints have been examined to determine whether they are original editions, reprints with revised plates, or copies made much later than the original edition.
After five years of research, it can be confirmed that the collection of old Netherlandish prints at The National Museum of Serbia comprises 183 works, which are listed and documented in the first part of the catalogue. They represent a time period stretching from the beginning of the sixteenth century through the mid-eighteenth century. In addition, an addendum lists ten copies from more recent editions.
This is the first publication in Serbian devoted to Netherlandish prints from Serbian museum collections. It is the result of a joint collaboration between Dr. Dragana Kovačić and Dutch experts. In the preface, the museum director acknowledges the importance of the CODART network in establishing connections and cooperation between museum experts that contributed to the realization of this publication.
