CODART, Dutch and Flemish art in museums worldwide

CODART-Member Fred Meijer takes PhD in Amsterdam for his dissertation on still life painter Jan Davidzs. De Heem

This morning, Fred Meijer, Senior Curator of Old Dutch and Flemish Painting of the RKD (Netherlands Institute for Art History) successfully defended his PhD-dissertation Jan Davidsz. de Heem (1606-1684).

In his dissertation, Fred Meijer studies the life and work of Jan Davidsz. de Heem (1606-1684) in the context of still-life painting in the Netherlands, and specifically in the 1626-1684 period. De Heem was one of the leading painters in this field, and a very versatile artist who tackled a variety of still-life subjects and motifs and whose style and handling did not cease to develop throughout his career. Meijer analyses and discusses all of De Heem’s currently known 270 paintings.

CODART would like to congratulate Dr. Meijer with his accomplishment.
