Next Friday the Kadriorg Art Museum in Tallinn, Estonia will present its first extensive collection catalogue of its Dutch and Flemish holdings.

Madalmaade kunst Kadrioru kunstimuuseumis. The Art of the Low Countries at the Kadriorg Art Museum is a bilingual (Estonian and English), richly illustrated book that contains a thorough examination of the Art Museum of Estonia’s collection of art from the Low Countries in the Kadriorg Art Museum.

The principal part of the book is comprised of scholarly catalogues of the painting and graphic arts collections of the Kadriorg Art Museum, which provide new information about the authorship of the works, as well as the models for the works and their history. The section that precedes the catalogues includes articles by Estonian and foreign authors, which provide close-up views and external views of the local art collections and the tradition of art collecting, as well as studies of the local works within the broader arena of art history related to Dutch and Flemish art. As such, the work reveals the local and international meanings of the Kadriorg Art Museum’s collection of art from the Low Countries.

The Kadriorg Art Museum’s collection of art from the Low Countries is the next largest after the collection of Russian art and includes 102 paintings and 313 prints.
