Earliest depiction of Huis ten Bosch in its present form rediscovered

A rare painting by Jan ten Compe, depicting Huis ten Bosch has been rediscovered in Paris. It shows Huis ten Bosch just after its extension by Willem IV. The painting is mentioned in an auction in 1807, but had been lost since.

The painting is datable around 1750 and has been painted by Jan ten Compe. According to Willem Jan Hoogsteder the painting is the earliest and most detailed depiction of the palace in its present form.

The painting is on display at Hoogsteder & Hoogsteder. It is not for sale.
