From Delineavit et Sculpsit, 29 April 2015
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is conserving its collection of Rembrandt prints. This project is financially supported by the Dutch foundation Stichting Boek & Wurm. Founded in 2010, they help realise conservation projects for valuable books and works of art on paper. The project started in January 2015 and is expected to finish in June 2015. A total of 173 prints will be treated during this project.
The treatment involves removing the works from their mount or secondary support, dry cleaning and a wet treatment to remove soluble discolouration. During the process the papers will be deacidified and afterwards they will be flattened. Finally, margins of Japanese paper will be attached and all the objects will be placed in an individual mount. For all the artworks a summary report with photographs is made in order to document the treatment.
After the conclusion of project the prints will all be made accessible in the museum’s Collection Online and a selection will be exhibited in the Print Room Gallery.
