Edwin Jacobs to be the new director of the Centraal Museum in Utrecht

As of 1 April 2009 Edwin Jacobs (48) will be the new director of the Centraal Museum in Utrecht. Temporary director van der Vossen will stay on until then.

From the museum website, 15 January 2009

Edwin Jacobs has been the director of Stedelijk Museum de Lakenhal in Leiden since 1 September 2007. Before that he was cultural agent (cultuurmakelaar) for the city of Tilburg. He also was the director of Museum Jan Cunen in Oss, where he succeeded in doubling the number of visitors. According to the Utrecht alderman for culture, Cees van Eijk, Jacobs will be "a creative and inspiring director, who is pre-eminently suited to make the Centraal Museum a binding factor in Utrecht’s cultural life. We also expect him to create an international profile for the museum with high-profile exhibitions that draw a broad audience."

Edwin Jacobs is happy with his new job: "The Centraal Museum is a beautiful museum, to which I am very pleased to be attached in the coming time. It has a special collection and I am drawn by the ambition of both the museum and the city of Utrecht. I think the museum can play an important role, for example in the Vrede van Utrecht (Peace of Utrecht) program in 2013.
