Frans Hals Museum Announces a Two-Year Loan Stop

The Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem will move its collections to a new storage facility starting in 2025. For many years, the museum has worked towards an improved collection storage facility. Within two years, the collection will be safely stored in a central location, in accordance with museum storage standards, and with the necessary facilities. The conservation studio will also be moved to the new storage building in the coming years. The new storage facility was made possible by the Municipality of Haarlem, the legal owner of the museum collection.

Relocating the objects is a major logistical operation. Preparations have been underway behind the scenes for some time now. The collection itself will be moved gradually from early 2025 to mid-2026. This major operation will demand a lot of the museum’s capacity. The museum has therefore decided to announce a two-year loan stop.

The loan stop will be in effect from 1 October 2024 to 1 October  2026.

During this period the museum will minimize its cooperation with exhibitions at other museum institutions, and will not lend objects from the collection to third parties. At the same time the museum will not be able to receive returning loans, or only to a very limited extend.
