Piotr Oczko has been appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau during a surprise ceremony in Cracow yesterday. Dutch Ambassador Daphne Bergsma presented him with the Order’s insignia for his contributions to the study of Dutch art, culture and literature, and the promotion of Dutch cultural heritage in Poland.

Prof. Piotr Oczko has been a professor at the Department of International Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow since 2004. His research focuses on Dutch art and culture, especially from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century. He has been an associate member of CODART since 2013.
Oczko has translated numerous Dutch publications into Polish and authored several books on Dutch culture, including Bezem en Kruis (A Broom and a Cross) on Dutch cleaning culture. He contributed a dozen essays to two volumes on the history of Dutch literature and wrote more than a hundred scientific papers on Dutch culture in Polish and international magazines.
