Old Masters Gallery in Kassel receives a landscape painting by Marten van Valckenborch

Information from the curator

The Old Masters Gallery in Kassel received an important landscape painting by Marten van Valckenborch through the bequest of Adelaide Rothfels (1921–2015). The fully signed and 1600 dated panel shows a wooden landscape with noble travel party and is a characteristic example of Valckenborch’s œuvre. The painting is a wonderful addition to the collection of Flemish landscape paintings. It now hangs in the gallery next to landscape paintings by Jan Brueghel the Elder, Joos de Momper, Pieter Stevens among others and offers to visitors an interesting insight into the development of Flemish landscape painting.

On Wednesday 16 November 2016, 18:00, Justus Lange will give a public lecture on the new acquisition.
