Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar seeks a second venue for the Emanuel de Witte exhibition

The following request came to CODART from the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar.

Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar is preparing an exhibition on Emanuel de Witte (1617-1692). After Cornelisz van Oostsanen (2014) and Caesar van Everdingen (September 2016) we are organizing the first monographic exhibition on this interesting Alkmaar born artist, scheduled in Alkmaar for 22 September 2017 to 21 January 2018. De Witte is known for his innovative church interiors, a genre he combined with other painting genres over the years. Thanks to generous loans from several international and national lenders, both private and public, the exhibition will give an overview of his oeuvre, while the context of Emanuel de Witte’s biography – apparently the artist had a rather eventful private life – also presents the opportunity to discuss several aspects of the Dutch seventeenth century society of the Golden Age. Conceived and guest curated by Ruud Priem, the exhibition will be available for a second venue in the first half of 2018, preferably directly following the Alkmaar exhibition dates.

At this stage we are looking for a second venue for the De Witte exhibition, possibly at a museum with a collection of Dutch seventeenth century art, including works by the artist or church interior by other Dutch seventeenth-century painters. If you are interested in the exhibition concept or if you think that the exhibition could suit your program, please contact me at lidewij@museumalkmaar.nl or Hester Huitema, project manager at hester@museumalkmaar.nl
