Press release

This summer, the art and heritage magazine Openbaar Kunstbezit in Vlaanderen dedicated a themed issue to the fascinating art collection of the eighteenth century collector Samuel von Brukenthal (1721-1803) in Sibiu / Hermannstadt (Romania).

Of the 1,200 paintings in the collection, nearly 500 of them are by Flemish and Dutch masters, including no lesser names than van Eyck, Jordaens and Brueghel. Along with these paintings, an enormous library and coin collection are also included in the collection.

On the occasion of this publication, the magazine is organising a study day, in collaboration with the University of Ghent’s Art Sciences department and CODART, about this intriguing collection. During the “Flemish and Dutch Masters in the Brukenthal collection in Sibiu, several national and international experts will take an in-depth look at the Brukenthal collection.
