Flemish Art: Local and Global

The 24th CODART Congress took place in Antwerp from 12 to 14 March 2023. In partnership with the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KSMKA), which reopened in September 2022 after an 11-year period of renovation, we organized a three-day event during which we explored the theme of “Flemish Art: Local and Global” and focused on the remarkable collections that Antwerp has to offer.

Besides the reopening of the KMSKA after years of renovation work, the City Hall too was recently restored and can now be seen in all its glory. The sixteenth-century building has been destroyed and rebuilt many times over the 500 years of its lifetime, but it still stands proudly in the heart of Antwerp. We could not have wished for a better location to start our Congress on Sunday afternoon, 12 March.

In 2011 the KMSKA closed the doors of its nineteenth-century building for large-scale renovation work. The old exhibition halls were restored and the museum’s four historic courtyards were converted into state-of-the-art exhibition galleries. We are therefore delighted to be able to welcome our members to the renovated KMSKA on both Monday and Tuesday –almost 23 years after our last visit in 2000 (CODART DRIE).

We are grateful to all the partners and hosting institutions for their hospitality and kind cooperation during CODART 24. In particular our thanks goes out to:
