CODART, Dutch and Flemish art in museums worldwide

Dresden, 5 to 7 September 2027

Global Encounters in Dutch and Flemish Art

From 5 to 7 September 2027, the 28th CODART congress will take place in Dresden. The Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD) will be our main host for the three-day event, which will highlight Dresden’s major exhibition Rubens. A Global Superstar in Dresden! celebrating the 450th anniversary of Peter Paul Rubens. The program will include special visits to other locations in and around Dresden, lectures, case studies and, of course, there will be ample time for networking.

The theme of CODART 28 is Global Encounters in Dutch and Flemish Art. Together we will discuss that while the significance of the ‘global turn’ is now widely acknowledged, its implications for art history, and for museum curators more specifically, are not always immediately evident. The conference is particularly interested in how global perspectives can reshape our engagement with collections, and in how curators navigate the relationship between scholarly research, institutional context, and public responsibility.

Please read the full theme composed by CODART’s Program Committee.

A preliminary program and more information about registration will be available on our website in February 2027. We look forward to welcoming you in Dresden!
