CODART, Dutch and Flemish art in museums worldwide

Jacobus Vrel

On Sunday 10 and Monday 11 September, CODART will return to France for the first time since 2007 (CODART TIEN). In partnership with  the Fondation Custodia Frits Lugt Collection in Paris we will organize a CODARTfocus meeting dedicated to the permanent collection of the Fondation and the exhibition Jacobus Vrel, Enigmatic Forerunner of Vermeer. The paintings by Jacobus Vrel have fascinated art historians for over a century but remain quite unknown to the general public. This exhibition, the result of an international research project involving the Alte Pinakothek in Munich, the Mauritshuis in The Hague and Fondation Custodia, examines who Vrel was and how to position him within the seventeenth-century art world. For more information about the exhibition Jacobus Vrel, Enigmatic Forerunner of Vermeer, please see the exhibition page.

The first day of the focus, Sunday 10 September, offers a rare opportunity to become better acquainted with the permanent collection of Dutch and Flemish drawings and paintings of the Fondation Custodia, with a focus on their new acquisitions. The second day, Monday 11 September, will be devoted entirely to the exhibition Jacobus Vrel, Enigmatic Forerunner of Vermeer. Participants will have ample time to visit the exhibition, which will be opened exclusively for our group. In various lectures the exhibition will be studied more in-depth. More information about the speakers and lectures can be found here.

This event is a collaboration between CODART, the Fondation Custodia, Frits Lugt Collection, the Alte Pinakothek in Munich and the Mauritshuis in The Hague. We thank all those who collaborated, but in particular the Fondation Custodia, for generously supporting this CODARTfocus meeting.
