CODART, Dutch and Flemish art in museums worldwide

On Tuesday 16 April, CODART organized a CODARTfocus event in cooperation with the Musée du Louvre on the occasion of the exhibition A New Look on Van Eyck. Madonna of Chancellor Rolin. This is the first spotlight exhibition in the Salle de la Chapelle since 2014 and celebrates the first restoration of the Rolin Madonna since the panel entered the collection of the Louvre in 1800. The exhibition is structured around questions that arose from the painting’s restoration and compares the Rolin Madonna with other works by Van Eyck himself and his contemporaries such as Rogier van der Weyden and Robert Campin. Included in the approximately sixty works on display are loans from museums in France and abroad, such as the Morgan Library & Museum in New York and the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin. Also on view is the Lucca Madonna from the Städel Museum in Frankfurt, which is on loan to another museum for the first time.

Besides an exclusive visit to the exhibition while the museum was closed to the public, there were lectures by Sophie Caron, curator of the exhibition, about the restoration of the Madonna of Chancellor Rolin, and others.
