This fall, CODART travels to the US for a three-day CODARTfocus in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art (NGA) and the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) in Washington D.C., and the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA). This visit will give you the opportunity to explore two special exhibitions and numerous interesting collections, together with your international colleagues.
The program starts on Monday 6 October at the National Gallery of Art (NGA) with an exclusive visit to the exhibition Little Beasts: Art, Wonder, and the Natural World. This will be followed by a panel discussion on the intersection of art, science, and natural history, moderated by Alexandra Libby (NGA). Panelists are Dario Robleto (Artist), Floyd Shockley (Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History), Darrin Lunde (Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History), Brooks Rich (NGA), and Stacey Sell (NGA). The afternoon will feature in-depth sessions on the NGA’s permanent collection.
On Tuesday guests will visit the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA). Virginia Treanor (NMWA) will introduce the exhibition Women Artists from Antwerp to Amsterdam, 1600-1750, followed by two lectures complementing the exhibition and an opportunity to explore NMWA’s permanent collection.
On the final day, Wednesday, participants will travel by coach to Baltimore. The day includes a special viewing of Dutch and Flemish books at the George Peabody Library (Johns Hopkins University), followed by a visit to the Walters Museum. A guided tour of the European galleries and a viewing of Flemish and Dutch works on paper at the Baltimore Museum of Art, led by Lara Yeager-Crasselt (BMA), takes place in the afternoon.
