Appointment of An Van Camp as Curator of the Rubenshuis

An Van Camp has recently taken up a new role as the Curator of the Rubenshuis, with overall responsibility for the artist’s house and the art collections. In this position, she assumes care of one of Europe’s most significant artists’ residences: the former home and studio of Peter Paul Rubens (1577–1640) in Antwerp.

Renewed Museum

Her appointment comes at a pivotal moment in the Rubenshuis’s history, with the artist’s residence currently undergoing an ambitious renovation as part of a wider master plan for the site. The renewed museum is scheduled to reopen in 2030 and will include approximately 50 percent additional space, creating room for a richer and more immersive visitor experience.

An Van Camp has been tasked with developing and implementing a renewed vision for the museum’s permanent scenography. Combining research and public engagement, she will draw on established scholarship and the latest insights into Rubens and his family. Familiar works will be presented in innovative ways, highlighting the functioning of Rubens’s studio and his international network. Following the reopening in 2030, she will continue to oversee the permanent presentation and contribute to a public program of temporary exhibitions.

An Van Camp stated: “I am beyond excited to help shape the next chapter of the Rubenshuis in my native town of Antwerp. Working closely with the team, I look forward to rethinking how we present the house and its collections, and to sharing Peter Paul Rubens’s life and work with visitors in ways that invite curiosity, reflection, and connection.”

While the historic artist’s residence remains temporarily closed, the museum has other offerings, including the Rubens Experience, the recreated Baroque garden, and the world-class library, as well diverse on-site activities.
