CODART, Dutch and Flemish art in museums worldwide

Jacquelyn N. Coutré Appointed Associate Curator at the Art Institute of Chicago

After an extensive international search, the Art Institute of Chicago announced the appointment of  CODART member Dr. Jacquelyn N. Coutré as the new Eleanor Wood Prince Associate Curator of European Painting and Sculpture before 1750. Jacquelyn begins at the Art Institute today, October 1.

With an expertise in Northern European art, and particularly on Rembrandt and his circle, Jacquelyn brings her experience as a curator and leader in museums, as well as a university educator. Over the past four years, Jacquelyn has led the European Art program at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre at Queens University, Kingston, Ontario, where as the Bader Curator/Researcher of European Art she oversaw the Bader collection of Dutch and Flemish paintings spanning the sixteenth through eighteenth centuries. Most recently, she curated Leiden circa 1630: Rembrandt Emerges, which opens this fall at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre before touring to three additional venues in Canada.

Previously, Jacquelyn held positions at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the National Gallery of Art, and she has taught art of the early modern period at numerous colleges and universities. She earned her MA and PhD from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. Her areas of research include Rembrandt, Jan Lievens and their circle, painting in Amsterdam in the seventeenth century, and the history of collecting.
