We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Joanna Tomicka (1959-2024), Curator of European Prints at the National Museum in Warsaw, on 16 March 2024.
Joanna retired last year after a nearly 30-year career at the Warsaw museum, which began in 1985. Shortly before retiring, she was featured as CODART’s Curator in the Spotlight, reflecting on her rich career as a curator and the many developments she observed in her field over the years.
Joanna has been a dedicated member of CODART since its founding in 1998 and has attended eleven congresses. The most recent one she attended was in Warsaw (2017), where she enthusiastically led a tour of the print room of the museum.
The Museum has published a short announcement and a photograph of Joanna on its website (in Polish). An In Memoriam with a bibliography of Joanna Tomicka is being prepared for publication in the Journal of the National Museum in Warsaw. The publication will be announced on our website.
We would like to express our condolences to the family of Joanna Tomicka and to her colleagues at the National Museum in Warsaw.
