On 16 October, Minister Maria van der Hoeven of Education, Culture and Science released De Canon van Nederland, drawn up for her ministry by a committee of experts under the historian Frits van Oostrum, president of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).The list includes four subjects related directly to the visual arts: iconoclasm, Rembrandt van Rijn, Vincent van Gogh and De Stijl. The canon website is however illustrated with many other works of art.
