On 27 June, Jochen Sander was presented with a festschrift on the occasion of his 65th birthday. Das Werk im Zentrum. Kunstgeschichte mit Objekten aus dem Städel Museum und der Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung brings together over 40 contributions by international authors (including many CODART members) who subject works from the Städel Museum and the Liebieghaus collection of sculptures to focused analysis using various methodological approaches. The book is edited by Berit Wagner, Almut Pollmer-Schmidt and Heidrun Lange-Krach.

Jochen Sander is curator and deputy director of the Städel Museum as well as the holder of the Städel Cooperative Professorship for Visual Arts in Germany and the Netherlands between the Late Gothic and Baroque periods at the Institute of Art History at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. He has advanced object-centered research in numerous publications and broken new methodological ground.

The present book connects a multitude of perspectives, from both academic and museum-based art history, by asking contributors to develop innovative questions based on only one object. These objects are showcased in order to reveal their many facets, somewhat like a kaleidoscope.
