CODART, Dutch and Flemish art in museums worldwide

New Issue of The Rijksmuseum Bulletin (73-1)

The current issue of The Rijksmuseum Bulletin showcases the research being conducted by, and in collaboration with, the Women of the Rijksmuseum project. Several articles in this issue may be of particular interest to the CODART community.

Laurien van der Werff’s article addresses the previously under-recognized role of women in early modern print publishing, demonstrating their vital contributions beyond the act of printmaking itself. Anne-Linde Ruiter’s research re-examines Bartholomeus van der Helst’s portrait of Geertruida den Dubbelde, revealing a broader understanding of her responsibilities as an admiral’s wife. The Bulletin also features recent acquisitions, including portraits by Aleijda Wolfsen and Gesina ter Borch’s portrait of her little brother Moses, a cutting by Johanna Koerten, and Maria Sibylla Merian’s Metamorphosis insectorum Surinamensium. Additionally, the issue acknowledges the contributions of Jenny Reynaerts, who served as chair of the Women of the Rijksmuseum project since 2021 and curator of nineteenth-century painting since 2003, upon her departure from the museum.

The bulletin is available in open access on bulletin.rijksmuseum.nl.
