CODART 26 Congress Opened at the Cologne City Hall

The 26th Annual CODART Congress was officially opened this evening at the City Hall of Cologne with a festive reception hosted by the City of Cologne. Henriette Reker, Mayor of Cologne, welcomed 145 CODART members to the city. Over the next two days, participants of the fully-booked congress will attend lectures and excursions in Cologne.

The congress has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud, the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Düsseldorf, the Delegation of Flanders in Germany, the City of Cologne and the Friends of CODART Foundation.

The Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud will host the plenary program of the congress on both days. The Monday program includes several lectures, discussions and case studies on the congress theme: ‘Tracing Contested Histories: Challenges and Future of Provenance Research’. In the afternoon, participants will be offered a choice of in-depth study visits around the city. These include visits to the various collections of the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum and its conservation studio, as well as to the NS Documentation Center and Museum Schnütgen.

During the plenary program on Tuesday, curators will have the floor for short presentations on current issues in the Speakers’ Corner, followed by a Room for Debate session. The afternoon excursions will offer participants the opportunity to visit Museum Kolumba, the roof of Cologne Cathedral, and the Kunststation St. Peter, among others.

On Wednesday, participants can join an optional full-day excursion to the city of Aschaffenburg in Northwestern Bavaria. In the morning, participants will visit the recently reopened Johannisburg Palace and the Staatsgalerie Aschaffenburg, which is housed in the palace. The afternoon will include a visit to the Collegiate Church of St. Peter and Alexander and the adjacent Stiftsmuseum.
