A new website has been launched dedicated to the work of Jacques d’Arthois (1613-1686), the most prominent and prolific artist of the Sonian Forest School, a group of seventeenth-century landscape painters who were active in the sprawling forest near Brussels.
www.jacquesdarthois.net presents nearly a thousand works (paintings, drawings, prints and tapestries), of which more than two hundred are signed. These can be accessed through lists of related collections, exhibitions and auctions. The website also includes a brief biography on the artist and an extensive bibliography.
The website follows two previous editions on other artists of this school: Lodewijk de Vadder (2020) and Lucas Achtschellinck (2023). All three sites are updated regularly, especially with regard to public auctions.
The website is an initiative of Emmanuel de Cannart dāHamale (Law Graduate and Bachelor of Philosophy, UniversitĆ© Catholique de Louvain, Belgium).
