Norbert Middelkoop to Defend Dissertation about Amsterdam Group Portraits

On Friday 1 November 2019 at 13.00h CODART member Norbert Middelkoop will publicly defend his PhD dissertation on Amsterdam group portraiture in the Old Lutheran Church in Amsterdam.

Norbert Middelkoop combined the research and writing of his thesis with his job as a curator at the Amsterdam Museum, which houses many of the group portraits he studied. He co-curated the long-term exhibition Portrait Gallery of the Golden Age at the Hermitage Amsterdam, which showcases over thirty group portraits of civic guardsmen, governors and guild members.

Norbert served as chair of the CODART program committee from 2004 to 2010 and as a board member of the Friends of CODART Foundation from 2011 to 2019.
